Lorie Kane inducted into the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame

Lorie Kane, 51, was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame in March this year and the ceremony was held last Tuesday evening. The distinction comes after her 26th straight participation at the Canadian Open last week.

Lorie started playing professionally in 1993 and joined the LPGA Tour in 1996.  During that time, she had four tour victories and was named female golf player of the year twice. She won the PGA Women´s Championship from 1996-1999 and again in 2001.

Before becoming professional, Kane won the P.E.I. Junior Girls Championship twice and was the P.E.I. Women’s Amateur Champion nine times between 1983 and 1992.  Kane represented Canada at the Pan Am games in the first-ever golf competition.

“The day that Mike Weir accepted the invitation to the Hall of Fame was the day that I said when they come to me, if my time comes while I’m still playing, I will welcome it,” Kane had said on Tuesday. “I’m not someone who likes to look back, so I’ve had some time since Sandra’s (Post) call to look back, and you know, I’m proud of myself.”

Lorie has had an impressive career before and after becoming pro. She became one of the most popular golf players in the LPGA Tour. She earned the Heather Farr Player Award in 1998 and the Mousie Powell Award in 2000.

In 2006, Kane was awarded the Order of Canada.  Her career has earned her an estimated $7 million.

“I’m probably playing some of the best golf I’ve played in a very long time. I’m having fun playing golf, it’s exciting for me to see the number of young Canadian players,” Kane said.
