What happened to Spieth at the Masters?

What happened to Spieth at the Masters?

Some get to cry and others get to celebrate. But to Jordan Spieth, there is a lot to take in as he went horribly wrong at the Masters. He lost his chance of becoming the first back-to-back Masters winner since Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002. Everything seemed glorious for him until something went wrong in the last moments.

Spieth, 22, was charging with momentum and going straight to it standing on the 10th tee of Augusta National. He made four straight birdies in a row and was going for the fifth. However, this is where things went inexplicably wrong. He bogeyed the 10th and 11th holes.  Despite this, he still was in the lead but at the par-3 12th, he sent two balls into the pond for a quadruple-bogey 7.

This was taken advantage of by Englishman Danny Willet who shot a bogey-free 67 and, in this way, donned the green jacket. This is the first time a European has won since José María Olazabal did in 1999. "It's just crazy," Willett said. "It's surreal."

When it all seemed like the 80th Masters would see Spieth raising his club with a nine-hole celebration, became a “surreal” day for Willet. Spieth said, "It was a dream-come-true on front nine. And I knew par was good enough and maybe that was what hurt me.”

The 9-iron did hit the slope at No.12 but then it rolled back into Rae’s Creek. After the penalty shot, he just found water again.  "I remember getting over the ball thinking I'm going to go ahead and hit a little cut to the hole, and that's what I did in 2014 and it cost me the tournament then, too," Spieth said.
